THE RICHARD LOMAS MEMORIAL CHRISTMAS JUMPER COMPETITION by Mick Crabtree

In accordance with tradition the Crich Workshop team held their annual Richard Lomas Memorial Christmas Jumper Competition on Thursday 20th December 2012 in The Brunswick, Derby. Richard had been a very regular attendee of this event and always recorded it for his blog.

A group of participants displaying their sartorial contributions at the Richard Lomas Memorial Christmas Jumper Competition on Thursday 20th December 2012 in The Brunswick, Derby.

The bloke standing in the back row left side was first recorded wearing his jumper on Richard’s Blog on 21st December 2008. The same bloke was portrayed on the blog wearing the same jumper on 22nd December 2009, when photographed sat with Richard, it brought a derisory comment from a blog correspondent, thus the same jumper has therefore been worn at every event since! It is now considered to be an artefact and is conserved so as to be available for this annual event, the only time it is now ever worn.

Richards blog for Tuesday 21st December 2010 clearly shows the above jumper being yet again worn by its usual incumbent who is sat with Richard,  Richard is seen wearing the most magnificent ‘Harlequin’ of Jumpers, sadly this was to be Richards last attendance at this prestigious event.

Richards blog further proves that the bloke stood up on the right of this years photo was recorded as wearing the same greenish jumper on 22nd December 2009, regrettably on Tuesday 21st December 2010 the same bloke broke with tradition and appeared in a reddish woolly garment.

Some of the participants who all missed an absent friend, somebody generously bought our absent friend a pint but couldn’t abide seeing it going to waste on the table, so it got supped!
Enjoy, Richard would have done so!

WESTERN FRANCE TOUR 2012 - CAEN

The TVR in Caen is now condemned to be replaced by a real tramway, thank goodness!

Passing the Cathedral in the opposite direction    That's all folks as that evening the fog came down with a vengeance and we didn't see anything more until we entered Portsmouth Harbour!

WESTERN FRANCE TOUR 2012 - LE HAVRE

We deviated via Le Havre on our way top Caen to see the new Le Havre cars at the depot waiting for the opening of the new tramway on 12-12-12.

Best I could do not being tall enough!

WESTERN FRANCE TOUYR 2102 - ROUEN

The tramway of Rouen is quite different to all other French tramways as it is similar to German Stadtbahn and Belgian Pre Metro systems.  There is an underground trunk route in the city centre and two overground  branches in the southern suburbs.  Overground sections are built to French standard with many grassed tracks.  The planned second underground east-west section has been cancelled due to financial reasons and no more extensions or lines are planned.  A bus system named TEOR, with many bus lanes, tramway-like stations and optical guidance was established for the east-west axis.
