Buchuresti on Friday

Most Bucuresti trams are artics like these. They were built in the 70s and 80s and have been heavily modernised. The route network has been rationalised with closures and overlapping services beimg reduced. Three trams at the terminus seems excessive until you realise that there is a 2 minute frequency on service 41.

Some of the cars now have low floor centre sections.

Most Bucuresti trams are single ended but there are a handful of double ended ones. These were on service 5 to Baneasa which had been cut back about 1 km because of road works and track renewal.

  1. Actually these trams are new builds--- yes on paper they are modernized, but the old ones were scrapped and starting in 1993 all of the older 350+ trams (single and double artics) were scrapped and replaced by newer versions in various flavours (with the latest having chopper control and low-floor mid section).
