Only one set of doors were opened by the conductor at the temporary stop and customers were shown how to use the temporary steps.

Easter Sunday

When I was younger, I always used to enjoy being a tram conductor on busy bank holiday weekends and was pleased to see two of today's young members doing the same. What will the museum be like in another 40 years? Will it exist in its present form?

The tunnel into the library has been discovered by the enemy and filled in, rather inexpertly.

This is the former Silver Service number 4, an AEC Regal of the 1940s. Am I right in thinking that this was once owned by Bill Gardener? Remember him?

Sheffield diversions (1)

The track on the triangular junction that forms the hub of the Sheffield tramway is being relaid over Easter weekend resulting in a diversion through the depot and replacement buses in the city centre. Click link for details.

Trams from Meadowhall towards the city are diverting through the depot yard....

....including a trip trough the washer.

On leaving the depot, the trams run wrong line to Cricket Inn Road.

Trams towards Meadowhall stop at the usual platform at Nunnery Square.

Weather

The tram service in Sheffield was disrupted today by planned track work and then an unplanned hail storm.

These pictures were taken on Monday.

Most of the scaffolding is now down and we can just see where the bridge to the workshop viewing gallery will be.

We can now see that the floor height in the stone workshop has been raised so that it is no longer below today's ground level. The stone arch for the doorway has also been very neatly raised.

Rack 2

Yesterday's trams were Glasgow 22 and Blackpool Rack 2. Mike Conroy-Hargreaves was the driver and I was conductor. Mike's pictures were taken with his I-phone and emailed to me during the evening. Very high tech!

I look as if I'm describing the fish that got away.

I see no ships.

Bob and Pat Carter

Bob and Pat Carter visited the Museum yesterday. Bob was a regular attender at Crich until he emigrated to America over thirty years ago with his wife and young family.

This 1966 view is the only picture I could find of Bob in the old days.

By coincidence Southampton 45 was in service yesterday.

A hole

I don't know what this hole is for and perhaps it would be foolhardy to ask for suggestions.

By Sunday the hole had got bigger.
